Dental-light supplier documents after ISO 9680:2026: ask what applies
A dated standards update and evidence matrix for importers: distinguish company identity, Chinese filings, model-specific reports and destination market requirements.
Start with the answer
The buying decision, clearly stated.
Qualify the exact model and destination, not a folder of impressive-looking certificates. ISO published ISO 9680:2026 in May 2026; ask which edition and configuration any report actually covers. Colight's published Chinese filings and design patent are distinct records and do not, by themselves, establish ISO compliance, foreign-market authorization or approval of every catalogue product.
- Match the legal entity, model, revision, intended use and report scope before accepting evidence.
- Separate identity records, intellectual property, test findings and market authorization.
- A new standard edition is a review trigger, not proof of supplier compliance or an automatic global deadline.
The current news: a new ISO edition, with a defined scope
ISO's official catalogue lists ISO 9680:2026 as the fifth edition, published in May 2026, replacing ISO 9680:2021. Its published scope concerns dental operating lights for oral-cavity illumination and excludes certain auxiliary sources and lights specifically designed for oral surgery. Read the actual scope before assuming that one document covers every item described as a dental or surgical light.
This update does not establish a transition date for every destination, a purchasing ban on earlier reports or any Colight test result. Ask the responsible regulatory reviewer which requirements apply to the product and market. Where a report names an earlier edition, record the edition and request an applicability or gap assessment instead of changing the year in a sales spreadsheet.

What Colight's published records can establish
The About us page publishes Class I device filing 粤禅械备20160096号 and production filing 粤禅食药监械生产备20160034号. It also shows design patent CN 308844500 S, granted in September 2024. Those identifiers provide a starting point for a document discussion with the company. They are different kinds of evidence, and the patent does not establish optical performance, product safety or permission to sell in another jurisdiction.
The displayed HGL105 EMC report cover dates from 2016 and relates to its named equipment. A historical report cover is not a current full report for CL105, CL106, another head or a complete mobile assembly. Request the applicable full documents and permission to use them in the buyer's review. Do not assume that similar model names or the same manufacturer bridge an evidence gap.
Keep destination access separate from general supplier credibility
A supplier can provide useful company information while a destination-specific product question remains unresolved. Write down the product's intended use, configuration, market and responsible importer before asking which registrations, authorizations, labelling or other evidence may apply. This guide is a document-planning tool, not a legal determination of market access.
For the United States, FDA's own registration-and-listing information distinguishes establishment and device records from any required marketing authorization. FDA also warns against misleading registration certificates. These references illustrate why a registration-looking document should not be described as product approval. They do not state that Colight holds a particular FDA status or that any listed product can be marketed in the United States.
Make an evidence matrix that can survive a model change
For each requested document, keep its issuer, date, identifier, model coverage, revision, standard edition, configuration, language and unresolved questions. Check that the named manufacturer and the delivered item align. If a family report is offered, ask how the ordered configuration falls within its scope instead of assuming that every similar lamp is included.
Assign a review owner and a status such as received, applicability pending, accepted for this purpose or not applicable. Record what event should reopen the review: a different control module, assembly, intended use, destination or document revision. This creates a useful qualification record without pretending that a document count measures quality. A smaller set of applicable evidence is more decision-relevant than an unexplained bundle of files.

Evidence appearance versus evidence applicability
These are document-review approaches, not judgements about a competing supplier.
Certificate collection
- Useful for
- Quickly shows which documents a supplier is willing to share.
- Check carefully
- Counts and logos can obscure old dates, unrelated models or an irrelevant scope.
- Decision context
- An initial inventory that still needs a structured applicability review.
Model-and-destination evidence matrix
- Useful for
- Connects each buying claim to a specific document and review decision.
- Check carefully
- Requires technical or regulatory judgement where market requirements are involved.
- Decision context
- Supplier qualification and controlled approval for an identified configuration.
Put the evidence beside the decision.
| Record | Question it can support | What it does not automatically prove |
|---|---|---|
| Company identity record | Who is the named legal entity? | Every product's conformity or export authorization |
| Chinese device / production filing | What is recorded in the relevant filing? | Approval in every destination |
| Design patent | What design right and identifier are documented? | Clinical or optical performance |
| Model-specific test report | What sample and method were assessed? | Unlisted models, changed configurations or unrelated standards |
| Destination-specific evidence | What applies to this product and market? | Unrestricted access to other jurisdictions |
A qualification decision with a retrievable evidence trail
- 01
Define the scope
Identify model, assembly, intended use and destination.
- 02
Request the evidence
List needed records and their expected applicability.
- 03
Match identifiers
Check legal entity, revisions, model coverage and standard editions.
- 04
Review gaps
Escalate technical or market-access questions to responsible specialists.
- 05
Record the decision
Retain accepted limits and the changes that trigger another review.
Worked example: a historical report offered for a new configuration
A hypothetical importer receives a report cover for an older named lamp while purchasing a current head with a custom arm. The importer logs the document as received but applicability pending. It asks for the full report, model relationship, configuration coverage and any additional evidence needed for the complete assembly and destination.
The importer also records the requested standard edition and asks its reviewer whether any updated evidence or assessment is needed. It does not relabel the old report as current, describe the patent as certification or publish an approval logo. If the required evidence cannot be confirmed, that remains a qualification hold. This is a practical way to keep commercial discussions moving while protecting the accuracy of product claims.

Questions buyers ask next.
Does Colight claim ISO 9680:2026 certification in this article?
No. The article reports the official edition update and explains what to ask. It does not establish that a Colight model or assembly has been tested or certified to that edition.
Are Chinese Class I filings the same as approval in my country?
No. They are distinct records in their own jurisdiction. Determine the product and destination requirements with the responsible importer or qualified reviewer and obtain applicable evidence.
Can a design patent prove product quality or safety?
No. A design patent concerns an intellectual-property right. It is not an optical test report, quality-system certificate, clinical evaluation or destination authorization.
What if the report model differs from my quotation?
Ask for the full document and a supported explanation of model or family coverage. Keep applicability pending until the ordered configuration can be matched; do not accept similarity of names or appearance as proof.
Follow the evidence.
